Sifsilcopper No 968 Copper TIG Rods are copper rods enhanced with 3% silicon and 1% manganese. They are designed for fusion welding materials of similar composition, copper alloys like brass, and for TIG brazing steels.

With a melting point ranging from 980-1200°C, these rods also excel in surfacing steel and in dissimilar metal applications. They are particularly effective on galvanized steel and offer commendable corrosion resistance.

Features and Benefits

  • Enhanced Composition: Contains 3% silicon and 1% manganese for improved welding properties.
  • Versatility: Suitable for fusion welding of copper alloys, TIG brazing steels, and surfacing steel.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Offers excellent performance on galvanized steel and provides good corrosion resistance.
  • No Preheat Required: Designed for ease of use without the need for preheating.
  • Optimal Mechanical Properties: Provides an ultimate tensile strength of 350 N/mm² and a hardness of 90.

Common Applications

  • Shipbuilding and offshore industries where corrosion resistance is crucial.
  • Heating and ventilation industries, especially for tubular product fabrication.
  • Sculpture repair, ensuring longevity and durability of artistic pieces.
  • Fusion welding of copper alloys and brass using oxy-acetylene.
  • TIG brazing of steel, cast iron to copper, brass, and bronze.

Material to be Welded

Oxy-acetylene gas flame should be slightly oxidizing. Keep the weld puddle small in order to promote fast solidification and minimize cracking. In oxy-acetylene welding, SIF Sil copper flux should be used both before and during welding.

Preheat is not recommended. Can be used in oxy-acetylene for fusion welding of copper alloys and brass. Also popularly used in TIG for brazing steel and cast iron to copper, brass and bronze.
